Ford Built a Folding E-Bike That Shakes to Tell You a Pothole Is Coming
By Andrew Moseman
Ford is no stranger to building fold-up e-bikes, the idea being that you could store them in the back of your Ford car and then take them out, unfold, and ride when you want to roll on two wheels instead of four. Its third and newest creation is called MoDe:Flex, and the company proclaims that this is the folding smart bike for the cycling enthusiast.
We don't have all the details on the MoDe: Flex—just what Ford shows off in this new video. But there are clearly some cool features at play: You can custom-configure the front and rear assemblies, allowing you to transition between a road and mountain bike. More impressively, it links up with a custom Ford app that connects with your Apple Watch. It will gauge your heart rate and, in 'no sweat' mode, will automatically increase the electric boost when it senses your body is working too hard.
In addition, the app feeds traffic and safety info to the rider—it'll even vibrate when a pothole is coming up. We don't knew the specifics of how Ford is going to pull that off, but we certainly hope it works for the sake of our poor tires.
